About

Boozhoo, Tansi, Hello!

My name is Desiree. I’m a freelance, mobile makeup artist in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I did my makeup artistry certification roughly ten years ago and have been working as a MUA for nine- I absolutely love what I do!

I love to laugh, but I never used to be that way. I have always been super self conscious about my big, loud cackle. It took a long time to master self-confidence in all forms (I still struggle with this) but I think that’s why I love working with people so much. I am constantly reminding my clients what makes them amazing and encouraging them to embrace all parts of themselves.

Born and raised in Winnipeg’s North End by a single mom, my maternal family is from Crane River, Manitoba and my paternal family comes from Grassy Narrows First Nation, Ontario. One of the first things I tell people is that I am a proud Anishinaabekwe (Anishinaabe woman). It hasn’t always been easy growing up as an Indigenous woman, dealing with racism, discrimination, fighting colonial systems, constantly feeling as though I need to prove myself and my worth. I will say though, that coming from a huge family full of incredible matriarchs has definitely helped pave my way.

Another passion of mine giving back to my community and working with Indigenous youth. I work full-time at the University of Manitoba as Director of Indigenous Student Recruitment and Community Relations. I’ve always had a love for supporting my community and being a helper. Working to ensure that Indigenous students and their families feel supported as they navigate their journey through post-secondary is a huge passion of mine. It’s exhausting having two full time jobs but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I adore my clients and I adore the folks I get to meet and help inspire!

You might not believe it, but I was a huge tomboy growing up! I never brushed my hair, I never wore makeup. I loved playing with the boys and getting dirty. Makeup wasn’t a thing until my very late teens right before University, and I fell in love with the creative outlet it gave me, but mostly with the amazing women/men I got to meet and work with.

Thanks for taking the time to read about me and look through my website. I look forward to connecting with you, laughing with you, and most of all: making you feel beautiful!

Going forward, I’ll be doing more sharing, so be sure to checkout my blog.

Miigwech, Thank-you!
